Minimally invasive carpal tunnel treatment refers to the surgical technique employing the smallest incision possible. It is performed in 10 min, under local anesthesia, allowing the return to work the same day for most patients with minimal post-operative restrictions. This technique involves a single, 1 to 1.5 cm (0.4 to 0.6 inch) incision and utilizes special surgical instruments to cut the transverse carpal ligament and has the advantages of both open carpal tunnel surgery and endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is the result of a compressed median nerve at the wrist. The most common symptoms of median nerve compression include hand tingling, numbness, and pain. In severe cases, hand muscles by the thumb atrophy, causing hand weakness and difficulty grasping objects.
